I really was happy to finally have the chance to visit the iconic 3D Cat billboard and Godzilla head in Shinjuku. Before, I came at night with my wife, it was cool to see it then but the crowds of other tourists pushing, shoving and blocking the view kind of ruined the experience.

Coming in the afternoon for this day trip, you can stand by the walkway or afar and see the billboard monitor without any distractions. The 3D Calico Cat comes every 15 minutes, so if you come early or late, there is no need to push and shove. You can relax your feet from walking and just wait a little while.

At Kabukicho, the crowds were just the same as the billboard. There were a few people posing to take pictures on the walkway but not as many compared to the night. We stopped by for a few minutes to look at both sites and not once did we have to squeeze through to get by.

If you have kids or family visiting and you don’t want to stay out late to visit iconic spots, you can always stop by during the day when it’s less crowded and go shopping or have some fun.
