Catch some pro wrestling on May 13

While sumo wrestling might still reign king in Japan, classic pro-wrestling is gaining momentum in the country and an opportunity to catch some of the action is coming soon to Okinawa.

On May 13, All Japan Pro-Wrestling (AJPW) will host Super Power Series at Koza Music Town near Gate 2 of Kadena Air Base.
The AJPW is one of the three major wrestling groups in Japan, along with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and Pro-Wrestling Noah and it is also the oldest.

Since its launch in 1972 by the legendary 6-foot-10-inch wrestler Giant Baba, AJPW has been known for “Odo Puroresu (High-road or classic pro-wrestling),” where big wrestlers engage in intense bouts in the ring.

The event will include two single, two tag-team, and two six-man tag matches, and will feature veterans like Jun Akiyama, giant 6-foot-5 Shuji Ishikawa, and current Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion Kento Miyahara.

Tickets for the Super Power Series event range from 3,500 – 7,500 yen for adults ($31- $67) or 1,000 – 7,500 for minors. Tickets will be available at the venue on the day of the event.

This is a great opportunity to experience Japan’s growing pro-wrestling scene for yourself.
