Cruising has been made easy for residents of the Marianas after the Philippines joined an alliance of cruise ship destinations and ports.

When I first stepped out into Busuanga’s airport in Coron, Palawan, I immediately felt like I was in the movie The Beach and Leonardo DiCaprio would soon pop out somewhere. It has this very natural, commune feeling that I didn’t get when I went to Boracay, Cebu, Bohol or any other tourist destination in the Philippines.
 

Green and lush, the landscape unfurls as you round that final bend and Hanalei Bay comes into view. Craggy volcanic ridges descend to the glistening sea, like a dragon coming to rest, and we are spellbound.
