Okinawans have the highest life expectancy in the world, with more than 900 centenarians living on the islands. This is thanks in no small part to the healthiness of the traditional diet, with its emphasis on whole grains, fish, vegetables and tofu.

One often thinks of Okinawa as a set of idyllic tropical islands with white sandy beaches and blue waters, so visitors to the main city of Naha are often surprised to find how large it actually is.

If you're planning to visit Zamami-jima in Okinawa's Kerama island chain, maybe for the beaches snd scenery, there are a couple of ferry options from the main port of Naha. Whichever one you choose, it's an enjoyable journey, if you had good weather like I did (and if the weather's rough, you might want to reconsider your plans!)
