Tokyo is an ideal destination for those visiting the east and a jewel in Japan’s crown but despite its many attractions it’s a vast working metropolis with a hectic pace.

The shape of Tokashiki Island on an old map reminded me of two novels I read when I was 14 years old. The novels were called Day of the Triffids and Lord of the Flies.

My family's Sunday afternoons are dedicated to enjoying lunch and good times with friends. This week we chose an unusual business combination in Yomitan Village. Nakagawa Farm is a farm as well as a restaurant, a petting zoo, a meat supplier, and banquet hall.

Reflecting upon my experience, I may have been less prepared to climb the Great Wall of China than I’d been for any hike ever: I had no jacket in the event of rain or chills, no map or GPS to show where I was or where I intended to go, no phone to request assistance if I needed it and absolutely zero ability to communicate with the local Chinese

The day started with breakfast in bed: dragon fruit, “salak” (snakeskin fruit), nuts, toast and coffee. Little did I know that I would see a half-burned body before dinner.
