Okinawa will host a pair of music festivals this summer. Once again, the Corona Sunsets Festival will return with fun, sun and of course, beer, on the beach. While the lineup is not yet set, the July 14-15 event will take place at Churasun Beach near Naha Air Port.

 

We all need a break from the real world from time to time. Whether you’re taking the weekend or two weeks off, you have already completed the first step by making time for yourself. Don’t stop there! Making small changes to the way you travel can be effortless if you set your mind to it.

Completely unplug

They say there is no place like home, but as my life as an expat evolves I keep asking myself – where is home?

In September, my wife and I set aside three days in Shiga Prefecture for a adventure into rural, traditional Japan through with tour guides company Sato Home & Tour.
 

It sounded like a good idea at the time… “Yeah honey, lets go home for the wedding and that way we can be there for our friends AND take our 6-week-old home to meet the family.” This decision was made in 2017 when I was about two months pregnant and my husband Dan was asked to be in our friend’s wedding in California.

As I awake the early morning sunlight bursts through the trees overhead, my tent slowly getting warmer. I slip on some sandals and wander the short distance through the trees to a secluded strip of white sand—Ama beach. My only company is the earlybird kayakers getting ready to hit the water before the heat of the day rises.
