While fierce heat continues day by day, the Japanese Meteorological Agency declared on July 20 the official end of tsuyu season in the Kanto, Yamanashi, Nagano and Tokai regions.

The end of the cloudy, rainy season comes one day later than the yearly average in the regions, according to the agency. As an overwhelming, high-pressure system covers the regions, the hot weather is expected to continue at least for one more week, the agency said.

As of July 8, the rain season in areas around MCAS Iwakuni and Sasebo Naval Base has already ended for the year. Misawa area in the far north of the mainland is expected to wrap up around July 28, the JMA said.
