Naminoue Beach and Shrine: A perfect day at Naha

If you have one day to spend in Naha, Okinawa, and would like to take a dive into the deep blue sea and also explore a little bit more, Naminoue Beach and the close by shrine are perfect for this. When the heat hits hard, there is nothing better.

Naminoue Beach is the only beach in Naha where you can swim, so if you want to refresh yourself after a long day of sightseeing, this is the place to go. The water is beautiful and the location isn't too crowded. When you are there, be sure to take a look at Naminoue Shrine as well, which is located "above the waves" as it is said in the name. This Shinto shrine overlooks the beach, with Shisa statues protecting it. A traditional cross between lion and dog, they are said to ward off evil spirits and at the same time keep good spirits in.
