Wet adventures at Okinawa Comprehensive Athletic Park
Okinawa Prefectural Comprehensive Athletic Park in Okinawa City has a fun-filled water park tucked away in its northeastern corner that is hidden away along one of the jogging trails through the parks many hills and trees.
The Okinawa Prefectural Recreation Pool is really three pools with three large water slides, a restaurant, nearly 30 pavilions and lifeguards throughout the property. The largest pool is a long circular river that has a gentle current that pulls visitors in a counter-clockwise motion.
Along the pathway there is a gentle sloping concrete beach, several interior pools, and the splash landing areas for sliders coming down the green and yellow loop slides or the down river slider. Another pool is a 20 meter long stimulated stream that begins at one end with water cascading down from rocks. The childrens' pool is less than half a meter deep and has multiple slides and water features to keep little visitors busy. Bring goggles as sunglasses aren't allowed in the pool.
There are three sets of restrooms throughout the property, five beverage vending machines, rental lockers, and an air pump for inflating your water toys. Admission is 840 yen for adults, 310 yen for children older than seven, and 100 yen for children 3 to 6; only Japanese cash is accepted. Park at the northern-most parking lot in the comprehensive athletic park and walk over the bridge to cross Route 227.
The park is open in May, June and September on weekends from 09:30 ~ 18:00, and in July and August daily from 09:30 ~ 18:30 except on Tuesdays when it is closed.
