MARINE CORPS AIR STATION FUTENMA, OKINAWA, Japan – Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, also known as Magic, received the United States Marine Corps Aviation Safety Unit Award for 110,000 mishap-free flight hours June 17 on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma.
The award demonstrates H&HS Futenma’s ability to lead the way for the operational support airlift community by providing time-sensitive delivery of personnel and cargo throughout the Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility.
“110,000 mishap-free flight hours is a rare milestone for any flying unit to achieve,” said U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Benjamin Vigil, the operations officer of H&HS Futenma. “Only a few squadrons have reached this number. It is a testament to the unit’s long-standing dedication to professionalism and excellence.”
The award represents over half a century of H&HS providing safe and effective transportation.
“There are key individuals here today, but it has taken over 50 years of successive responsible leaders who passed the torch and established the culture that we continue to uphold,” said Vigil.
Vigil also credited the support of their outstanding maintenance teams to all their successful flights.
