If you talk to a Japanese person on duty, especially for a business purpose, he or she would likely begin a conversation by saying “osewani narimasu,” which roughly means “thank you for taking care of me.”
This is a customary greeting commonly used over the phone, on email, or for in-person conversations.
Although it may sound odd to say such a thing at the beginning, but it can help you communicate smoothly. So, it’s well worth memorizing.
“Osewa ni narimasu.”
(“osewa/sewa– taking care/support, “ni” – a particle to support a noun, “narimasu/naru’ – become”
*Grammatically speaking, this phrase roughly means “I become the subject of your support.”
