If you’re looking for a full-flavored French cuisine at a tasty price, Bistro Grand Chariot near Naval Radio Transmitter Facility Awase in Okinawa City is the place for you.

“You can enjoy great combinations of imported high-end foods and local fresh ingredients in our French cuisine,” said restaurant owner Kazuhiro Nakamatsu. “We cook our dishes with selected imported foods, such as Angus beef, Iberico pork, Guinea fowl and Magrets duck, along with Okinawan Agu pork, sea food and various local vegetables.”

According to Nakamatsu, Iberico pork saute with herbs and balsamic sauce is one of the most popular dishes.

“We put the sliced Iberico pork in parsley, rosemary and other herbs, as well as bread crumbs before sauteing it,” Nakamatsu said. “The tender meat and crispy bread crumbs really goes well with our sweet and sour balsamic sauce.”

During lunch time, you can enjoy a course meal that consists of an appetizer, main dish, soup, pasta, rice or bread, dessert and drink for 1,500 yen ($12).

For the main dish, you can choose one from the three options: fish, beef or chicken.

“The menu changes depending on the season, and currently we are offering grilled beef fillet with cheese, himedai (job fish) with cream sauce and chicken simmered in coffee for the main dishes,” Nakamatsu said.

On Fridays, “foie gras” (liver of a goose) is added to the main dish options. As for the service, it’s French dining at its finest as the waiters carry your main dish in a cloche and open it on your table.

Besides the main courses, you can also enjoy various light snacks (tapas) with your wine. The smoked salmon, Agu pork sausage, stewed pork loin and spit-roasted beef and mushrooms are favorites. As for drinks, the restaurant boasts of a largecollection of wine and awamori (traditional Okinawan distilled spirits), so ask Nakamatsu for one that goes along best with your tapas.

Bistro Grand Chariot, which can seat 40 customers, offers various party plans, including “joshi-kai” (girl’s only gathering) plan. If you are a group of five or more females, you can enjoy a full course dinner with a selected bottle of wine or beer, as well as dessert for 3,200 yen per person.
