The Wing King in Chatan is popular spot for anyone craving that classic taste of American-style chicken wing.

This restaurant even specializes in everyone’s favorite – buffalo wing – which can be ordered in or enjoyed as takeout.

What stands out most about Wing King is that they offer 10 different flavors of the wings. Customers can have fun with the challenge of tasting a variety of sauces to determine their favorite. These include hot, spicy coconut, honey barbeque, lemon pepper, oriental, Hawaiian heat and sweet-and-sour sauce.

According to restaurant staff, the most popular flavor of them all is the honey mustard. These wings are saturated in a sweet honey sauce that has a little bit of a kick from the mustard and is loved by American and Japanese as well as kids and adults, alike.

The prices are reasonably priced for the whole family to enjoy. One flavor of six wings goes for 500 yen or $5, two flavors and 10 wings are $8, and 14 wings (two flavors) are $10. They also have 60 piece package for $39 that allows up to five different flavors. The wings are served with carrot sticks and dressing for good measure.

Side dishes on the menu include spicy fries ($2) and lumpia ($5). It’s no wonder they are popular.

It should come as no surprise the Wing King is American-friendly with English-language menus and English-speaking staff. And you can pay either in U.S. dollars or yen. However, they do not accept credit cards.

They boast that many customers are also fond of their sandwiches. They have such offerings as chicken, fish and even pork chop sandwiches. These sandwiches are quite big and guaranteed to satisfy the biggest of appetites. All sandwich are 400 yen or $4. And cheese topping is an extra 50 cents.

The restaurant is furnished with five simple dining tables inside that seat a total of 25, ideal for a casual meal out with a group of friends or family. Friendly English speaking staff will also take to-go orders over the phone. All you have to do is to pick up your wings, and maybe a couple of cold ones on the way back home.

Getting to Wing King from Kadena Air Base is pretty easy. When you come out form Gate 1, make a left. At the second traffic light, make another left and follow Route 23. You will see a red “Wing King” sign on your left, across from au shop. Parking is on site.
