It’s time again for American Festival, a community favorite, on Kadena Air Base.

The fun-filled, family-friendly event returns April 27 on the base’s flightline. It is an open-base event for residents and locals.

The venue, which is normally busy with aircraft coming and going, will be the setting for live entertainment, a kiddie land, and food trucks.

The static aircraft display and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) hangar open house are two of the main features of the event. These programs allow visitors a close-up look at some of the military crafts and interactive STEM demonstrations.

Access to American Festival for non-SOFA attendees in vehicles is through Gate No. 4. Pedestrians can use the gate on Route 74.

Those who are 16 years or older will be required to have a form of identification to enter. For access, Japanese citizens and non-SOFA U.S. citizens are required to bring either a driver’s license, My Number card, passport, or health insurance card with another photo ID.

Non-U.S./non-Japanese citizens must bring a temporary or permanent Japanese residence card or a passport.

SOFA personnel can use Gates 1, 2, or 3 for base access, and hop on a festival shuttle.

The flightline tends to get loud, so attendees are advised to bring ear plugs or other hearing prevention to the event.
