In 2016, there were 56 people bitten by habu snakes in Okinawa. Among them, 42 were men and 14 were women. Twenty five of those were bitten on their hands while 10 were hit on the bottom part of their legs. Every year, from May through June, the Okinawa Prefectural Government issues a warning to be on the lookout for habu snakes, as the creature becomes active during that time.
