The landmark of Mihama American Village is going to be taken down soon. It has been reported that the Ferris wheel that stands at the center of the shopping area near Camp Foster and Kadena Air Base, is scheduled to be demolished soon. The perimeter of the attraction was cordoned off in May, with its base already taken down.
The Ferris wheel with a diameter of 50 meters began its operation in 2000 and has long been recognized as the landmark of the busy shopping area. Once the sun went down, its illuminations added colors to the glaring neon signs of the area.
Local reports say the demolition is expected to be completed by September. Although no details are yet to be announced on how the location will be utilized, constructing a hotel is reported to be the most likely.
