Hamahiga Island, located to the east of Katsuren Peninsula, is known as “Kami no Shima,” or “God’s Island.” The many sacred sites here are what give the island this moniker. Many tourists make Amamichu and Shirumichu, a grave and a cave named after a female and a male god respectively, stops on their visit of the island. From Camp Foster, it takes about a one-hour drive to get to this island of ancestral mythology.
