OKINAWA

If you drive in Japan, you may have seen designated bus lanes on the roadways. You’ll see them in many city in Japan and on Okinawa. These lanes are specifically for buses on designated dates and times, so it can be tricky to figure out when. Even locals forget about it and end up driving in the bus lanes when they shouldn’t be.

So next time you get behind the wheel, remember this phrase, “Basu reen (bus lane) wo sakete unten shimasu”, which means “I will avoid bus lanes when I drive.”

(“basu reen” – bus lane, “wo” – a proposition to put after a noun which functions as an object, “sakete/sakeru” – avoid, “unten” – drive, “shimasu” – I will do ~)

Ok, stay safe and see you all in the next episode of Speakin’ Japanese!
