This year’s rainy season, also known as “tsuyu” in Japanese, has come to an end in Okinawa. The Japan Meteorological Agency released the announcement at 11 a.m. on June 20. This statement came one day earlier than average, and five days earlier than last year.

This year’s rainy season came with a lot of rain on the island. In Naha City, for example, 1,095.5 mm of rain came down during the season, more than three times the annual average of 316.6 mm, according to JMA.

This exceptional rainy season also brought relief to the island where the possibility of water rationing was looming just a few months ago. Now the water storage rate of the 11 reservoirs in the prefecture is at 100% as of June 20, according to the Okinawa Prefectural Enterprise Bureau.

With the rainy season and concerns over water outages in the rearview mirror, it’s time to celebrate the summer in full swing!
