Wouldn’t it be nice if you could stop by a good Mexican joint on the way home to grab some tasty burritos for an easy dinner on a laidback evening? I Know I would like to.
Well, luckily, Kadena Air Base and Camp Foster community members who are craving a burrito with all the fixings can fulfill their hearts’ desires thanks to nearby Rollup Burrito.
This small establishment just opened in October primarily as a take-out shop at one of the military community’s favorite stomping grounds, Sunabe Seawall. It didn’t take long before this place caught on with Americans in search of some familiar flavors from back home. Rollup Burrito’s reasonable prices and hefty burritos have been hitting their sweet spot ever since.
“Ninety percent of our customers are American,” said Manager Hiroshi Kotegawa. “Out of the eight different burritos we offer, our steak burrito and teriyaki chicken burrito are the two most popular menu items. We have guacamole and scramble egg as optional fillings, which are popular with customers, too”
This place takes both dollars and yen on a one-to-100 ratio; so show up with yen in hand for an even better deal. For example, it costs 850 yen (about $7.15 at today’s exchange rate) or $8.50 for a 12-inch steak burrito, and 700 yen or $7 for a 9-incher; the teriyaki chicken rollup goes for 750 yen or $7.50, and 600 yen or $6, respectively. (Currently, credit cards are not accepted.)
The menu is written all in English, and friendly English-speaking staff behind the counter will fix your burrito the way you like.
You can customize it by choosing from a selection of rice, sauce, cheese and salsa at the counter. Drinks and sides like spicy chicken nuggets or hash browns are also available to make a combo for an extra 300 yen or $3. And there’s good news for vegetarians: They have a tofu vegie burrito for the herbivore in you.

If you are not in a hurry, there is limited seating available for up to 11 patrons; it includes a drink bar and various condiments to give your wrap that extra kick. And if you’re looking for morning breakfast burrito that doesn’t need to be microwaved, Rollup Burrito is open 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on weekdays.
“Many military customers stop by here in the morning before they head to work.” said Kotegawa. “And also we have many family customers that enjoy Saturday and Sunday brunch here by the sea.”
