Though the temperature is still hot, and Okinawa may not offer the autumn foliage of the mainland, there are some special sights of a subtropical fall season you won’t want to miss.

You can catch interesting fall flowers through Nov. 4 at Bios on the Hill’s Hanamatsuri (flower festival). The nature-themed park in Uruma City is highlighting over 25,000 cooktown orchids (dendrobium bigibuum) for the season at its 洋蘭交差点 (orchid intersection).

In addition to seasonal blooms, the park has a fern tree forest, other foliage plants and air plants to enjoy browsing.

Regular attractions like water buffalo cart rides and jungle cruise boat rides are also available. Don’t miss the goats, agu pigs and feeding the chickens.

Spending some time in the quiet and relaxing atmosphere of Bios on the Hill will be a great way to enjoy the fall on the island.
