Okinawa has produced seven pro boxing world champions. Among them, Yoko Gushiken, who became the WBA Light flyweight champion in 1976, is the most famous. Gushiken defended the title 13 times before retiring in 1981. Now, the first world champ boxer from Okinawa enjoys success as a TV talent. He is especially known for the goofy comments he often makes on quiz shows.
