OKINAWA
Ramen at Menya Shuntaku

(Shoji Kudaka/Stripes Okinawa)

To replenish my energy, I made a stop at Menya Shuntaku, a five-minute drive away from Look Rock Bouldering Park.

This ramen joint is known for serving up ramen with salt broth, which is not so common in Okinawa. I tried the signature menu item shio (salt) ramen (950 yen) because I wanted something light flavored after the intense exercise.

The delicate sweetness of the broth went very well with thin noodles and savory green onions on top. The thin pork slices added a nice texture and a different kind of sweetness.

Lucky for me, the ramen came with a side of takikomi gohan (seasoned rice), which you could eat as much as you wanted for free until 3 p.m.

Normally, I might go for Menya Shuntaku’s shoyu ramen for 950 yen or noukou tonkotsu (rich pork bone broth) ramen for 1,050 yen. But on this day, the salt ramen was the perfect choice for me.
