Now that we’re staying at home and practicing social distancing, other social practices have had to be readjusted.

Have you enjoyed video chatting with your friends and family? On-nomi, a new trend in Japan, which started due to the closure of bars and pubs is bringing friends and even coworkers together for drinks (whether adult beverages or tea and sodas) and chatting after hours online. The point of these gatherings is to keep in touch with our friends and upkeep a form of normalcy not currently possible in person.

Have you tried this new trend?

Today’s phrase is “Onnomi shimasho,” or “let’s have an online drinking party.”

("Onnomi" = online drinking party, "shimasho" = Let's do)

Why not invite your Japanese friends to your party with this Japanese phrase?

Stay safe and "Onnomi shimasho!”
