Tell Us About Yourself!

Gerard is originally from Baltimore, Maryland, and proudly served twenty-three years in the United States Air Force. His career included nine years as a Bomb Loader on the F-16, eight years as an Education and Training Manager, and his final six years as an Air Force First Sergeant.

He has spent over 21 years in the INDOPAC region, with 11 years in Misawa, Japan, 8 years in Okinawa, Japan, and one year in Osan, Korea. Gerard is passionate about cars, videography and social media, as well as music.

Why do you love working at the USO? I first used the USO as a young Airman back in 2001 on my way to basic training in San Antonio, Texas. I relied on it again during various deployments. I’ve always appreciated what the USO stands for and how their dedication plays such a big role in keeping the force strong.

As both a service member and a customer, I’ve seen firsthand how much the USO supports the military community—at home and while deployed. It’s truly an honor to now work for an organization that has been serving me and my fellow service members for over 80 years.

What is your favorite memory of working at the USO? We had a 92-year-old widow visit us—her husband had served 30 years in the Air Force. She came in needing some assistance and shared that the USO had always been a place where people could go for help. To her, it was a beacon of light throughout her years living around military bases.

She even shared some history about USO Kadena, and after we were able to help her, she told us it was heartening to see that, after all this time, the USO is still a beacon of hope for those in need. That moment really stuck with me—and I’ll always remember it.

FEATURED PROGRAM:

USO Kadena will be hosting our second Karaoke Night on Friday, May 9th from 6:00pm to 11:00pm. This is intended to bring military members and families together across the island who are interested in finding more community with others while singing their hearts out. No talent needed! It’s also a great alternative spot for folks to enjoy a fun night in a safe, welcoming environment. We’re excited to keep growing this program at Kadena and creating lasting memories for service members during their time in Okinawa.
