Tell Us About Yourself!
Ivie joins the USO Hansen all the way from Paris, Texas—a small town in the Lone Star state famous for its very own red cowboy hat wearing Eifel Tower! She loves traveling, meeting new people, and trying new foods which is why she was thrilled to move all the way across the Pacific Ocean to Okinawa with her husband, an active-duty Marine. Prior to moving to Okinawa, Ivie worked as a Dialysis Technician, an experience, she shares, taught her many life lessons—the most important one being that life is precious and too short, and with that in mind, Ivie lives each day to the absolute fullest.
Why do you love working at the USO?
I love working for the USO because it allows me to support and uplift the women and men serving in our military. We strive to provide them with a sense of home and comfort while they visit our center during their deployments. It also provides me the opportunity to support and mentor our volunteers and encourage them to be the best versions of themselves. I love watching our volunteers grow as individuals while they’re deployed overseas. I am proud to be a part of an organization that supports them.
What is your favorite memory of working at the USO?
My favorite memory is our recent USO Hansen Volunteer Appreciation event. Our team traveled to the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, where you can visit their dolphin exhibit. While there, we saw the bottlenose dolphins perform a show of all kinds of behaviors such as flips, leaps, dancing and much more! During the show it was pouring rain and by the time the show was complete, everyone was drenched from head to toe. While in the moment, being soaked from head to toe wasn’t fun, I reminisce now, and it makes me laugh every time I recall that memory—a memory I will fondly cherish for a long time.
FEATURED PROGRAM:
USO Hansen’s monthly Karaoke Night Program is a great way for people to come together for some amazing fun songs and delicious pizza. Not only is it for karaoke songs but people also do open mic comedy skits, perform poems, and so much more! I loved coming to these as a volunteer with my husband, and I still love being a part of them as a USO employee. Follow us on Facebook at USO Hansen for more information!
