Tell Us About Yourself!
Darryl hails from Charleston, South Carolina, and has served 21 years in the United States Air Force as a member of Security Forces. He has spent eight years in the INDOPACIFIC region, with four years stationed in Korea and four years in Okinawa, Japan. His passions include cooking, playing video games, and spending quality time with his family.
Why do you love working at the USO? I first accessed the services provided by the USO in 2004 while stationed at basic training and technical school in San Antonio, Texas. Throughout my 21-year career, I have consistently relied on the USO during various assignments and deployments. The USO plays a crucial role in supporting the military community, particularly in engaging younger service members. I am eager to create a supportive environment that empowers young service members and helps them transform their aspirations into tangible objectives as they remain committed to achieving their goals.
What is your favorite memory of working at the USO? One of the most memorable experiences was when the USO, in collaboration with the First Sergeant Association, facilitated a visit with my father before he passed away. If not for the efforts of these two organizations, I would not have had the opportunity to say my final words to him. My family and I will cherish this moment for the rest of my life.
FEATURED PROGRAM:
USO Hansen will be hosting a “Cars & Coffee” event every second Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. This event aims to bring service members together, providing them with an opportunity to share their passion for vehicles and to educate others about cars. USO Hansen aspires to further develop this program and expand upon it in the future, with the goal of creating a unique and meaningful experience for service members during their time stationed in Okinawa.
